Hand tap is a tool used to make threads in pre-drilled holes. Hand taps are usually used manually by hand without the aid of a machine. This tool consists of a cylindrical rod with a threaded end consisting of a thread cutter.
The process of using a hand tap begins by inserting the tip of the tool into the drilled hole. Then, by turning the hand tap clockwise, the thread cutter will cut the material and form the thread on the wall of the hole. Depending on the type of thread desired, hand taps can have a variety of sizes and shapes of thread cutters.
Hand taps come in a variety of types and sizes, including metric threads and imperial threads. Types of hand taps that are commonly used include taper taps, plug taps, and bottoming taps. Taper taps have a tapered end and are used to initiate thread shaping. Plug taps have a flatter end and are used to deepen threads. The bottoming tap has a flat end and is used to deepen the thread to the maximum depth.
